For the last week, I’ve put off this post. I had no real good reason to. I only worked 3 days, and have spent the last four at home on holiday. I was simply unmotivated to write the closing piece to the lackluster series. But, it’s time to say my last piece, and put this show to rest. So, let’s get to it.

Suisei no Gargantia: Going Everywhere, Ending Nowhere
Before this spring season of anime began, mecha anime fans were cheering and rejoicing over the fact that there was to be, not only one mecha anime streaming, but three. The first Majestic Prince, which I have already written about in a previous article (here), has proven to be a fairly enjoyable show with its own traits and nuances. The second show, Valvrave, is a near to complete mess of a series that can be summed up with the phrase: Space Vampire Mecha. It is enjoyable only from the perspective of someone who knows that it is terrible. Lastly, comes Suisei no Gargantia (Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet). Being spear-headed by writer Gen Urubuchi, Madoka, Fate/Zero, and Psycho-Pass, there were many high hopes for this series. As we come to the conclusion of the show though, it is apparent that this hope was for naught. Gargantia’s plot is convoluted to the point where there is no clear direction, the characters are all lacking in true development, and even the overarching political/moral point of the story has been lost.

[Suisei no Gargantia Episode 11]
And just like that, Suisei no Gargantia has lost what little credibility and watch-ability this show had left. In all honesty last week, when we out our ending theories out there, I had a slight hope that it wouldn’t come to this. I thought, with only two episodes left, this show just might pull out a great twist, and we’ll all be surprised we doubted it (well, at least somewhat). But, once again, this show takes a bland, generic, sci-fi route, and only disappoints us going into what will probably be an utmost cliché ending.

Pinion and the fleet are forcefully absorbed, with no other option available. And Ledo begins to revert back to his old self now that a bit of home has arrived. Nothing can go wrong from here, right?
