At the end of the last episode, the Gargantia fleet is hit with a double blow. The Captain suffers a heart attack, at the same moment half the fleet declares its leaving for richer salvages. The reigns of Gargantia are left to Ridget. But is she up to the task to keep it all together?
In short fashion, this episode tears apart the Gargantia fleet and decimates it’s leadership. To be honest, this show needed something to shake up the status quo. The last four episodes have been stranded without the winds to carry it. First, we get the death of the steady and calm captain, followed by the departure of most of the fleet in search of richer salvages. In all honesty, the show needed this. It needed to separate the oblivious Amy from the unbending Ledo.
Amy’s continual happy-go-lucky attitude is almost unbelievable. Between her and vapid friends, It felt like we were getting nowhere with the story. And as for Ledo, if the Whalesquid hadn’t arrived, we might never had been reminded that he was a soldier, with no other discernible skills. Luckily we get a death and divorce to mix things up.
But as the story moves away from Gargantia, I wonder what will happen in Ledo’s absence? The show has made it perfectly clear that the fleet strength is down. And without Chamber to protect them, might it be a good time for the Pirates to return? My bet is when the salvagers look to return to Gargantia, things will no be as expected.
As I’m writing this after already seeing episode 9, I’ll keep from go ahead too much. But, I’m encouraged that this show just might pick up the pace, just in time to see it end once spring is over.
